Place of work during the 60’s and 70’s (personal biography):

He was studying at the Massana School of Arts in Barcelona. In 1967 he went to Paris, where he attended classes at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. There he was also the assistant of Piotr Kowalski, a sculptor and architect of Polish origin, who had studied Physical at the MIT and who would have a remarkable influence in Torres.

In 1974 he settled in USA, where he lived up to early the 2000’s, when he moved back to Barcelona.

At a first stage he was interested in the research of concepts through the artistic practice, but afterwards his interest developed towards aspects related to anthropology and psychology and the behavior and manners of the individual in specific social circumstances.
Along his career, Torres has realized performances, photos, videos and, above all, installations. Francesc Torres questions the social order based on the relationship between political power and economical power. In his work he uses to pay attention to the memory and the present,  in an attentive and detailed reading of some critical episodes of the history linked to specific contexts. By analyzing the machinery of war and the violence in culture and history, Towers often acts as a historian or a philosopher and contemplates the tensions between the relentless passing of time and the fragility of memory, in spaces of a high political contents.
